Streetdog

Via 2point8 I found these street pics of the 70's taken by Robert Johnson. One of them is one of the best dog pictures I've seen for a while:

I find it interesting how dogs on the street are second only to humans in the interests of street photographers. They pop everywhere, but you can't do them often (unless you're Elliot Erwitt, who shoots them all the time). Then go pigeons. A few well known to enjoy:

Josef Koudelka

Richard Kalvar

Elliot Erwitt

these definately move me. why would there be more dogs than people in a street? try to think of it now, and i cant think of anywhere. Need to go home to swansea where there are hundreds of dogs, nowhere in cardiff at least springs to mind, not just for photography but for the feeling you get from these photographs, a certain memory of being young and finding strays everywhere, you dont get that now, we even took in a few in my family.

I do really like these.

dogs are cool (note: i just typed 'gods' by mistake. three times);

but for me it's trees which are the most effective surrogate humans. at least in terms of providing a point of interest; partly why local man's 'hollywood growth' set looks pretty killer to me...
